Accelerated Resolution Therapy
Also known as ART or the Accelerated version of EMDR
What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)?
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a relatively new form of psychotherapy that is designed to treat a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other trauma-related disorders. ART is an evidence-based, brief therapy that typically involves 1-5 sessions, with each session lasting 60-90 minutes.
ART is a unique form of therapy that uses a combination of techniques to help clients process and release negative emotions and memories. ART incorporates elements of several established psychotherapeutic approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR).
How Does ART Work?
During an ART session, clients work with a trained therapist who will guide them through a series of techniques designed to help them identify and process negative emotions and memories related to their mental health condition. These techniques include:
Mental Imagery: Clients are asked to visualize a scene related to their trauma or negative emotion. The therapist then guides them through a process of desensitization, where the intensity of the emotion is reduced.
Eye Movements: Clients are asked to follow the therapist's fingers as they move back and forth in front of the client's face. This technique is similar to EMDR and is designed to help reduce the intensity of negative emotions and memories.
Mindfulness: Clients are taught mindfulness techniques to help them stay grounded in the present moment and reduce feelings of anxiety or depression.
Benefits of ART
ART is a highly effective form of therapy that can help clients experience significant improvements in their mental health in a short amount of time. Benefits of ART include:
Rapid Results: Many clients experience significant improvements in their mental health after just one or two sessions.
Non-Invasive: ART is a non-invasive form of therapy that does not require medication or other invasive procedures.
Evidence-Based: ART has been shown to be effective in treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
Client-Centered: ART is a client-centered form of therapy, meaning that the therapist works closely with the client to develop a treatment plan that meets their unique needs and goals.
