Trauma Therapy

Are you being affected by your past experiences? Feeling stuck in the present moment? Trauma, whether it is big or small can be defined as any experience that has not been fully processed or integrated...

As kiddos, our brains are like sponges, we pick up what we see and hear in the world around us. We are exposed to a variety of experiences and modeling by our caregivers, that develop and inform our core beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. Sometimes these experiences are stored unconsciously influencing our intimate, familial, and interpersonal relationships as well as beliefs around money, career, sex, gender, religion, rules, emotional expression and so much more. With the amount of information that is stored unconsciously, it can lead us to repetitive and destructive patterns that leave us feeling;

  • Stuck

  • Alone

  • Broken

  • As though you can’t trust anyone

  • Hopeless

  • Shameful or Guilty

  • Misunderstood

  • Like no one can help me…..

These feelings along with many others can be disruptive as trauma can take many forms. Some people find themselves haunted by memories of a single incident that left them feeling intensely frightened and unsafe. For others, trauma can be less easy to identify, especially if it was a long-term, cumulative or developmental trauma of neglect or abuse. Others are traumatized by bullying, racism or poverty. Your collective experiences can have profound effects on your physical, emotional, and mental well-being, even if you don’t remember them. Despite all this, you are not alone, help is here.

In trauma therapy, we talk about these experiences and memories in a safe and confidential space. Discussing these things that you might otherwise opress can be scary and overwhelming, but with a trusted professional, you can find comfort and relief

How Trauma Therapy works…

In trauma therapy, I take a gentle approach to uncovering experiences and memories in a safe and confidential space. I work somatically with the nervous system, providing psychoeducation around how we experience trauma and how we can regulate our nervous system in real-time. While discussing past trauma can be scary and overwhelming, when taking a slow person-centered approach to what is being experienced at the moment, comfort and relief can be found on the other side when speaking these things out loud.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We will start by listing your symptoms, I will ask you questions about your life and often your childhood. Once we establish your history, we will then decide how we can help you do things differently when it comes to facing your trauma. For deeper healing I utilize EMDR combined with parts work to help the body and brain move out of feeling stuck and into relief and freedom.

  • During our first consult call, I will ask you questions and get to know you and your struggles to see if trauma therapy would be a good fit based on your symptoms.

  • Each person is unique, and everyone’s trauma looks different, so there is no real way to know an exact timeline to start to see results. With EMDR, I have found it to be one of the more faster-acting modalities for trauma, where clients experience long-term relief in a short amount of time.

Been in traditional talk therapy for years and it hasn’t helped? Still, stuck? EMDR therapy might be right for you.

EMDR therapy is an extension of trauma therapy that can help on a deeper level.
